Offices

Office buildings can include several separate premises with various operations, or one office complex for a specific purpose. Demands for security regarding forced entry, emergency exit and access control may vary. The recommendations here are given from a general perspective and you should always consult our specifiers for a specific solution.

LOCK SYSTEM

Master key systems are recommended for offices. A building including several offices with various operations should have separate lock systems. These systems can be connected to one master key system if the owner of the building has an overall responsibility for service, cleaning etc.

ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

The mechanical lock system may be complemented by an access control system. This provides registered passage and the possibility to keep high-traffic doors locked without inconvenience to the users. Access control system allows also for controlling access based on time and person.

The access control system may either integrated in the mechanical lock system using the electromechanical ASSA CLIQ system, or it may be a separate access control system. Specifying an access control system demands a good balance with the mechanical system since it is the combination of the two systems that has to meet all functional and security requirements.

PLANNING AND KEY MANAGEMENT

A lock system must be based on a thorough security analysis. Many problems can be avoided by having as clear an overall picture as possible. If the building for example has a central administration but is now completely let, reservations must be made for future operations. ASSA Keybank key administration software should be used to increase security and to simplify the sign-out of keys.

EMERGENCY EXITS

It is important to plan carefully for well-functioning emergency escape. During normal working hours emergency escape must always be possible without a key.

Night-time locks must be unlocked before the building becomes occupied for the day. By using electromechanical locking units the night-time locking can be connected to a "vital function" in the premises, which means that secure emergency exit is possible at all times. Mechanical lockcases with built-in microswitches are used to indicate locked/unlocked doors.

Doors with a lot of traffic should be equipped with door automatics for convenience. To facilitate passage between fire zones we recommend an electromechanical hold-open function connected to a fire alarm.
